LSU TO HONOR 4 MOST OUTSTANDING ALUMNI 2009
Four distinct and
exemplary individuals will be honored this coming December 26 as the
Most Outstanding Alumni after a thorough deliberation by a group of
personalities representing different sectors in the school was made
last November 26.
This year, the
Office of Alumni Relations and External Linkages will present to the
public two women of vibrant dynamism in uplifting the lives of people
and two men of enterprising leadership both in government and
non-government sector. According to Director for Alumni Relations and
External Linkages Ralph Oscar C. Bagaboyboy, these 4 individuals were
selected on the merit of their well-rounded involvement in various
activities and programs, aside from the standard criteria set by the
Screening Committee and reviewed by the Board of Judges.
Here are the 4 recipients of the Most Outstanding Alumni Award 2009:
(Entrepreneur,
Philanthropist and Visionary)
Mr. Suan is presently the President and Chief Executive Officer of his own company, ULTRA CRAFT Advertising Corporation in Cagayan de Oro City. He is actively involved in various leadership responsibilities, to mention the few are : as Longtime Board Member of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Board Member of the YMCA Northern Mindanao, Boy Scouts of the Philippines and Cagayan de Oro City Tourism Board . Suan is also the Director of Opol Livestock and Poultry Operators Association and served as Vice-President of the Immaculate Conception College Working Scholars Alumni Association Inc. ( ICCWSAAI ). Being a businessman and community leader, he was sent to several trade missions in Korea, China, Taiwan, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, together with the City Government of Cagayan de Oro and Department of Trade and Industry for business matching, technology transfer and trading initiatives. Having been generous for the works of charity, Mr. Suan is a regular benefactor of the Payatas Dumpsite Community through the Institute on Church and Social Issues, House of Hope Foundation, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, House of Friendship/ Balay CANOSSA Foundation, The Carmelite Nuns of Cagayan de Oro City, UNICEF, La Salle University Ozamiz Scholarship Fund, among others. He was also awarded the Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary International, the Hero Awardee of the St. Ignatius Health Foundation, among others.
SISTER LILIAN M. CURAMING, FMM, High School 1956
(Religious, Scholar
and Peace Advocate)
As a Franciscan missionary, Sister Curaming has exemplified a modern missionary and apostle of the 3rd millennium who studies language and culture in order to understand other cultures and faiths for the promotion of world peace and unity, as described by her friends.
Sister Lilian has a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Organizational Development from Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute in Manila, finished her Master of Arts degree in Guidance from the University of San Carlos, Cebu City and her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Education degrees from the University of Santo Thomas in Manila. She also studied two international languages in Arabic and French; Arabic and Islamic studies in Rome; Literary and Colloquial Arabic in Alexandria, Egypt; Modern Arabic in Tunis; and her French consisted of two studies- Cours de Francais and Diplome de Langue Francaise from Paris, France.
As a linguist, Sister Curaming has been able to reach out to different races in the world to promote peace and Inter-faith understanding among them. She has served several top positions in this kind of undertaking, to wit: as Executive Director of the Movement for Muslim-Christian Dialogue; Consultant of the Interreligious Dialogue in the Archdiocese of Zamboanga and of the Silsilah Dialogue Movement, Ateneo de Zamboanga-Institute of Culture and Society of Western Mindanao. She also served as Directress of the Stella Maris College in Oroquieta City and of the Schoolwork and Development of Women in Egypt. Currently, she is a member of the Catholic Bishops Council of the Philippines Catholic Mission Council and of the Episcopal Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and a part-time faculty member of the Maryhill School of Theology and University of Santo Thomas. Curaming has been speaking in various conferences around the globe on the issue of World peace.
MS. TEODORICA A. BROBO, BSE-Religious Education 1982
(Lay Carmelite, Community Worker and Christian Humanitarian)
Ms. Brobo is a
woman of prayer, generosity, honesty, faith, gentleness, firmness,
thoughtfulness, discipline, humility, respect and dignity, as
manifested by her friends and colleagues in the ministry. She is a
highly respected servant who always consults her members in the Order
of the Discalced Carmelite Secular (OCDS). Being active in religious
undertakings, Ms. Brobo is presently serving as the House
Administrator of the Carmelite Retreat House in Malaubang, Ozamiz
City since 1992 and manages the Retreat Ministry of the Carmelite
Retreat House for 17 years now. Last 2006, she was assigned a
pastoral work in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte for 3 years and
conducted religious activities in different barrios there. Ms. Brobo
was instrumental for the formation of a Prayer community as an
apostolate of the Secular Carmelites in Ozamiz City in that same year
which was participated in by parishioners from Zamboanga del Sur,
Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Oriental and Misamis
Occidental.
Aside from her
religious involvements, Ms. Brobo was able to upgrade herself
professionally by taking several short-courses to enhance her
socio-cultural leadership responsibilities. She received a
professional diploma on Family Ministries from the Loyola School of Theology,
Quezon City in 1994 and a Proficiency award in Family Ministries and
Guidance and Counseling from the Mother of Life Center in Novaliches,
Quezon City in 1986. She also attended and conducted several
trainings and workshops on topics about Parenting, Spiritual
Leadership Program, and Group Media Training Program, among others
throughout the Philippines. Right now, she sponsors 5 students having
enrolled themselves from basic education to tertiary education
despite the meager income she receives from missionary work.
MR. JOSE LORETO O. PROCIANOS, JR., High School 1961
(Cooperative Leader
and Social Development Practitioner)
Mr. Procianos is
actively involved in cooperative movement and social development
projects, having served several positions up to the present, as
follows: Executive Director of the Misamis Occidental Federation of
Cooperatives, Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Development
Council, Vice-Chairman of the Regional KALAHI Convergence Group in
Region 10 Chairman of the Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating
Committee, Regional Chairman of the Joint PARCOMS of Region 10 and
Co-Convenor of the CSO Alliance for Sustainable Development in
Misamis Occidental. In the past, he served also as Secretary-General
of the COOP NATCO Party List, President of the Partido Kooperatiba ng
Pilipinas, Vice-President, Ozamiz City People’s Cooperative and
President of the MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center, among
other groups. Procianos also became Project Director of several
endeavors with the United States Assistance for International
Development (USAID) and other foreign governments. He also took up
several international cooperative studies in Japan, Canada,
Singapore, Europe and others and received numerous awards from the
City Government of Ozamiz, Provincial Government of Misamis
Occidental, National Anti-Poverty Commision being a member,
MASS-SPECC Cooperative Development Center and the Department of
Social Welfare and Development during the then Secretary and now
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Truly, this year’s recipients of the Most Outstanding Alumni Award have greatly transformed people around them through their distinct, generous, charismatic and Christian way of reaching out mankind. They have undeniably emulated the ideals and characteristics of their dear Alma Mater. The entire university is looking forward to honor them in the evening of December 26, 2009 at the Arts Center on the occasion of the Grand Alumni Homecoming and the 80th founding anniversary of the institution.
