History of La Salle University
The story of Immaculate Conception College-La Salle is a venerable one, having its roots in Spanish colonial times when Catholic missionaries established parishes in Northern Mindanao. In the early part of the 18th century, the old town of Misamis, now Ozamiz City, became a mission area under the Jesuit priests, who served the town from the mission of Iligan.

1789, Recollect fathers under Fr. Julian de Nuestra Señora del Mayor Dolor, took over the Misamis mission: established the parish of the Immaculate Conception; Fr. Constancio Arsenio, opened a little school in his convento, later became the Immaculate Conception College; classes were the Cartilla, the Misterio, the Tresagia and the Novena (equivalent to grade six). Upon the completion of the Novena, students were qualified to teach the lower grades. This type of parish school continued into the early years of the American regime.
