Types of Gifts

Class and Organizational Gifts

Class gift campaigns and special gift projects from activities like celebrations, golf tournaments and concerts benefit the LSU community through scholarships, faculty  support or physical improvement on campus.

Gifts-in-Kind

Gifts of personal property, books, artwork or collections (stamps, cards, jars, etc).

Gifts of Services

Gifts of service can include teaching, consultancy or lecture series among others.

Scholarships

Scholarship donations support the education of students. Gifts may range from full scholarship grants which cover tuition and miscellaneous fees, partial subsidies or book and living allowances on a per semester or annual basis.

Scholarship categories include: academic, sports, cultural and working students.

Endowments

An endowment is a gift held in perpetuity and invested in a manner that protects the principal from inflation. The investment’s income or  interest provides a stable funding source for such purposes as scholarships, professorships,

faculty development, administrative chairs, lecture series and research centers.

Naming Rights

Assets, academic units, facilities, collections,  fellowships, events and structures may be named after individuals and institutions.  Naming rights are granted for outstanding service, scholarly achievement, distinguished contributions or significant gifts. The  conferment of this right is the sole discretion of the University with the consent of the individual or institution concerned.

Research and Publication Grants

LSU is a teaching and research University. As such, it offers its facilities and the expertise of its faculty to industries and the government to undertake significant and relevant projects provide training for University personnel and publish scholarly works and endeavors.

Planned Gifts

Planned gifts are pledges that will benefit LSU on a near or future date. These may include donations of securities, wills, and real estate and tangible personal properties.

Outright Gifts

Outright gifts provide support for priority needs of the University. Donations may go toward support for foreign trips of students and faculty, participation in competitions, special fund raising events, and other specific endeavors.

Memorial Gifts

Memorial gifts may be given in memory of the life and accomplishments of a loved one, favorite professor, student or friend. Such gifts can come in the form of a memorial lecture or commemorative event.

Real Property

Gifts of residence, farm, ancestral home or other forms of real estate may be given to LSU. Each potential gift of land is carefully evaluated to make sure that the use of such property will advance the mission of the  University.
